Located next to the Decarie expressway this blocky apartment building is very typical of a certain period. I usually prefer old buildings but I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of these. There a lot of them, on a smaller scale, in Côte-des-Neiges.

Situé à côté de l'autoroute Décarie cet immeuble très carré est typique d'une certaine période. En générale je préfère les bâtiments anciens, mais je dois admettre que je ne suis pas un grand fan de ceux-là. Il en a beaucoup comme cela, d'une plus petite échelle, à Côte-des-Neiges.
Many of these ugly buildings were built in the post war period when housing was built to meet a huge increase in the population. Most immigrants were coming from a destroyed Europe and were just happy to be alive and have a roof over their heads. These buildings were basically barracks and were not meant to be luxurious. Today, everyone wants granite countertops and stainless steel appliances but these buildings were paradise for many people that had seen true hardship.
