Post of the week - Article de la semaine : Pont Champlain bridge (part 1)

The Champlain bridge, the busiest bridge in Canada, will eventually be history and the long, slow process of demolishing it is on its way. I took these photos last August. I took my bike to go about a long route but I had to take a shuttle to ride on the Estacade, which was closed to cyclists, in order to ride my bike on the Seaway road. I took plenty of photos of the bridge. This is part one. More next week.

  1. I don't understand. They are taking apart the old bridge while continuing to let traffic across the bridge? Where is the new bridge being built?

  2. They are reinforcing the old bridge (emergency repairs) and building worksites to build the new bridge and eventually take down the old one. I can't believe they can just build a road in the river with stone fill. Many thanks for these pics!

  3. Anonymous 1 : The new bridge will be built next to it or on top of the temporary stone fill. I assume they will built it in two sections : first from the Montreal side. Once completed they'll remove the temporary road and build the second part on the South shore / Seaway side. They can't block the St Lawrence river entirely.

    Anonimous 2 : You're welcome

    More photos next week
